Update Monday: editing like crazy

Writing:

This week I’ve had my editing hat on, both editing my work and others’. I had the first round of content edits for The Hot Floor to work through, as well as getting going on edits for the Lashings of Sauce anthology. I did a small amount of writing too: another installment of Storm and Lightning.

It’s been weird to read The Hot Floor again. I’d forgotten just how long and explicit the sex scenes were. It’s probably the smuttiest book I’ve ever written and I found myself thinking “my God, did I really write that?!” I’ll just have to hope none of my RL friends read that one, or I’ll never live it down ;)

Real Life:

I set myself the task of clearing all the boxes out of my conservatory so we could entertain there for my mum’s birthday this weekend. It’s been an excellent incentive to finish the unpacking. There are still some boxes to go and a whole load of bookshelf organisation, but things are better now. It’s great to see boxes of books that have been packed away for the last couple of years – I keep getting moments of “I forgot I even owned this!”

I’ve also managed to unearth my sewing machine and actually sat down at it and made a string of bunting. I’d forgotten how much I enjoy sewing!

This week:

There’s more organisational stuff to do for the Lashings of Sauce anthology, and I’m working on a few promotional projects for the summer, but this week I really want to get back into writing again. I’ve set myself a goal of 10k on Screwing the System – the novel. Some of that will simply be rewriting existing scenes from the short story, changing from the first to the third person, but I want to get into Alasdair’s POV for a scene too.

Tomorrow I’ll be off helping Daisy’s class walk from school to where the Olympic torch passes through town. I’ll also be blogging about Bath over on the Carrying the Torch blog tomorrow. Head on over there to check out posts by writers Syd McGinley, Clare London and Anne Brooke.

  1. I’m with Chris I don’t know how you do it all. Good luck on all the edits and the unpacking – I bet it’s nice to get all those books back out :D

and OH wow, have fun with Daisy at the Torch thing :D That should be a great time!!

Good luck with the writing as well. :D

    • Heh – me either. Haven’t had much time for reading, but I did get back to choir for the first time in weeks, so that was good. Turned out all the songs they’d been learning were ones I already knew too :)

Thanks! I’m really looking forward to the Torch thing now I’m going with Daisy :D

  2. Glad I’m not the only one who feels exhausted when reading the week’s summary :D
If you don’t mind me asking, how many hours a week to you devote to writing? You seem to get through so much work!!!
I seem to write and revise with the speed of a slug. A moribund one :D

    • In a normal week, I’ll write maybe three or four hours a day. I barely did two hours last week, but I did spend a whole day on editing The Hot Floor. Real life was very, very busy.

Bear in mind I am a full-time writer, so I have to get on with it or we’ll starve ;)

    • Thanks hon! It’s not my sort of thing as a general rule, but with everyone out on the streets I think it should be fun :)

  3. Wow, I really like your kissing boys feature.
    What’s Screwing the System about?
Good luck with fitting everything in this week :D

    • Thanks – I really love that picture – the way they’re holding each other is so sweet.

Screwing the System features a young musician who falls in with an older man and they have a discipline relationship with a bit of Daddy/boy kink going on. It’s another one of those “am I really going to write this?” stories!
