Update Monday: getting my muse back on line

Snog of the Week

Aww, matching hair!

Last week:

Despite the distractions of a four-day visit from the in-laws and Daisy being off school ill one day, I still managed to write my 2k a day for four days, so the novel now stands at 20k. I’m really pleased with that, which is a great feeling to be going into this week with :D

Real Life:

Besides the invasion of the in-laws, I had a surprise visit from regular blog commenter Jay Rookwood and his friend Chris, who stopped off en route to the Sunrise Festival to drop off a pot of homemade jam. Great to see you again, Jay, and lovely to meet Chris too!

Apart from that, I’ve been making a concerted effort to finish off my pile of old sewing projects, and even got the overlocker out again, cleaned and oiled. I’m not letting myself start any new projects until I’ve cleared at least half of the backlog!

This week:

I’ll be aiming for 8k on the novel, and 2k on Storm and Lightning this week. Should be doable, despite Daisy having an inset day on Friday. If the weather holds, I’ll be taking her down to Weymouth on the train. If not, then perhaps Longleat – although it’s getting more and more expensive every year.

Other than that, I have the final proof of Lashings of Sauce to deal with, and the print galley for Handle with Care. Also, I’ll be spotlighting my good friend Lou Harper here on Wednesday for my very last Amazing Author spot, and the delightful P.D. Singer will be guest blogging on Thursday. Busy, but not too busy, I hope.

How’s everyone else doing? Got any interesting projects on the go?

  1. Ooo! Oooo! You have an overlocker!
I too have been at my pile of mending and that’s almost finished. Gardening is taking up a lot of time – as Mr Prue is the only one who can start the mower, and as he’s been ill, we have a wild garden right up to the patio. Enter Prue with scythe. It bit my finger but at least I found out how sharp it was :D
Writing has definitely taken a back seat but I’m trying to get on with revising my novel but my brain doesn’t want to work. Then there’s the knitting. There really aren’t hours enough in the day…

    • Yep – I used to use that overlocker loads, but I got out of the habit and it’s been sitting gathering dust for a couple of years. Nothing like it for making clothes quickly, though!

Using a real scythe on a meadow sounds like fun – even if it did bite your finger! I have a friend who’s right into scything and went to a scything contest round these parts. We do stuff like that in the West Country ;)

And I’m with you on there not being enough hours in the day. I haven’t picked up my crochet or knitting for days..

      • Before we bought the scythe we went to the scything festival in Somerset. It was awesome! A scythe beat a strimmer – and was a lot quieter.
It was so cool to see people wandering around with scythes over their shoulders :)

  2. Yay for writing despite visitors. Looking forward to PD Singers guest blog, me has some questions for her ;)
And I’m too lazy to go follow her blog and ask there
Have fun with Daisy which ever you choose

    • Excellent! Pam is a lovely person and a fantastic writer. I must go and hassle her to get that post to me ;)

I’m thinking seaside. It’s been too long since I’ve seen the sea, and the sand at Weymouth is beautifully soft and silky.

  3. OH WOW! I have gotten like ZERO writing done since the kid has been home. It’s been CRAZY. *sigh*. Of course I’ve been single-parenting it myself right now, so we’ll see how things go when the hubs returns.

Cool that Jay and his friend Chris were able to visit. Good for you for getting some sewing done.

Good luck on all the authorly stuff this week. What’s an inset day???

    *HUGS*

    • It’s next to impossible to write anything when you’re in sole charge of a child. I find that in the holidays too, although sometimes I get my mum/sister/best friend to babysit for a few hours.

Inset days are when the schools close so the teachers can get extra training. There are a few every year, and each school takes them at different times so they’re a really good opportunity to go and do touristy things when it’s not too busy :)

  4. I’ve managed 8k words on picowrimo this month in spite of saying I’d skip the June version.

This weekend I need to write two posts for Carrying the Torch, and two others for separate blogs on speed hill climb and/or women in motorsport.

    • Nice one! That’s a very respectable word count :)

Sounds like you’re blogging all over the place – fascinating sounding subjects there.
