Update Monday: I have paperbacks at last!

Snog of the week

because I know how much Lou loves her bears...

Last week:

I didn’t get nearly as much done as I’d planned, but Daisy kept me up three nights in a row coughing, so I really wasn’t up to much. I did get the Lashings of Sauce print galley sorted out, though, and wrote 2k of Screwing the System and 2.5k of Storm and Lightning. I also took the time to take stock of where I am with both stories, reading through everything so far, making notes and planning out the rest of the story in greater detail. I’m feeling excited to get going on both again – the only question is, which one first?!

Also, huge excitement: I have my author copies of the Barging In paperback! Woohoo! Now I feel like a real writer ;)

Real Life:

On my exhausted days I’ve taken some time to do things that give me back energy and satisfaction, like gardening and dressmaking. The rain has continued to be a real bugger when it comes to planning outdoor activities, and Daisy’s school fete was a bit of a washout. Still, she enjoyed getting her face painted like a tiger and her fake skull and crossbones tattoo :)

This week:

I’m planning to get stuck into Screwing the System and I WILL write at least 10k. I’ll be blogging about the area I grew up in over on Carrying the Torch tomorrow, and my guest blogger on Thursday will be Charlie Cochet. I’ve decided not to post my usual Writerly Ramblings post this Wednesday, as Charlie has put together a fabulous and helpful post all about the best advice she’s picked up as a new writer.

I’m also really excited about my weekend jaunt oop north to Penrith, where I’ll be attending my very first Romantic Novelist’s Association Summer Conference. I think Becky Black and I may very well be the only two m/m writers there, but I’m just excited to be spending a weekend with other writers, learning all sorts of new things. I’ve heard those romantic novelists can put away a fair bit of wine too. I’ll be sticking to the pints of beer myself, because I’m thoroughly ladylike like that ;P

What are the rest of you up to this week?

  1. Yay for paperbacks (I think I squeed on twitter as well, but it’s worth an extra squee)

Ooh, currently reading a Charlie Cochet book :)

    • Thanks Chris! I’m relieved Becky is going to be there too, but I’m sure the het novelists will be lovely to meet, even if I do end up having to answer that “why do you write gay romance?” question constantly ;)

  2. We shall have to go out and convert some of them to the dark side. :D I’ll bet there are writers there who haven’t even heard of it, but it they did would write it!

    • I think it’s safe to say most of them won’t have heard of it – except perhaps those with the US epubs like us. Maybe we’ll end up selling a few books to the more curious ;)

  3. WOOO HOOOO for paperbacks :D That’s fantastic!!! So excited for you :D

WOW you got a ton of writing done – good for you!!! Especially since there’s no school right now. I’m currently getting pretty much zero done /o\

So glad Daisy had such a fantastic time :D My kid enjoys getting his face painted and fake tattoos as well :D

OH Charlie’s lots of fun, can’t wait to see her post.

Have fun at the conference. OMG that reminds me I still need to make my reservations for the UK meetup /o\ CRAP LOL.

    • Thank you!!!! :D

Hehe – I don’t have school holidays as an excuse – Daisy still has two weeks to go. I’m going to set myself a really modest 500 words a day target during the holidays, though. I reckon I can manage that and it will stop me going nuts.

And yes, get your booking sorted, missy. You NEED to be there!

  4. Woohoo! It’s looking good. How wonderful to have some real paperbacks! :)
Sorry to hear about Daisy’s cough. Hope she’s better now.

    • It is thoroughly wonderful to finally have them arrive. I even got to sign one for a friend the other day :D

Daisy was fine – she just tends to get a cough at a tail end of a cold. It’s one of those complications of having Downs – tiny sinal passageways that get really easily blocked up with mucus. She was lively during the day, though–unlike me :(

  5. Those are some luscious bears.

I just got the print galley of Last Stop to proof, although it won’t be out till next May.

    Have fun at the conference!

    • Aren’t they just?!

I love getting those print galleys – it’s usually at the stage when I feel like I cope with reading the story another time, too. You do get a bit sick of them during edits, don’t you?

Thanks – although it’s not going to be anywhere near as fun as your RWA con. I’m totally jealous!
