Update Monday: Autumn is here

Snogging cowboys, for all you lucky lot going to GayRomLit

Working week:

The highlight of my week was the trip up to Manchester with JL Merrow, which I blogged about here. The rest of the week kept me pretty busy catching up on stuff, and doing crits of Jamie’s hilarious next novel, and an eerie novelette by Lou Harper.

Real life:

I’ve been busy spending my last royalty cheque on things for the house, including (joy of joys) a filing cabinet and all kinds of storage baskets/drawers. This has necessitated plenty of tidying and sorting, inspired by reading the wonderful Stuff. It feels good to get rid of things I no longer need, and the whole house is looking better as a result.

I’ve also been out in the garden, planting bulbs. We’ll have daffodils, crocuses, tulips and alliums next year! Now, if only I can get the lovely old lady next door to have her leylandii cypress seen to, I might actually get some winter sunlight to enjoy the garden. God, those trees are a nuisance. I can see why they lead to massive disputes between neighbours.

This week:

Today I’m having an admin day, but the rest of the week is dedicated to Storm and Lightning. I’m determined to have the thing finished by the end of next week. It will take a bit longer than that to post all the remaining episodes up on the blog, though.

I’m also trying to do my best not to be insanely jealous of everyone going to GayRomLit this week. Not only could I do with a bit of New Mexico sunshine and warmth to counteract this autumn chill, but arrgh, I’m missing out on all that partying! I will definitely be there next year, though. I’ve been putting money away with every royalty cheque that comes through, and have enough for my air fare already :)

Anyone else here going to GayRomLit? And those of you who aren’t, do you have any other fun plans for the weekend?

  1. OH nice picture. And UGH I really wanna come to Manchester *fingers crossed*

Sounds like the house and gardening stuff has been going really well. You should post pictures when you get time :D

Good luck with all the stuff you have planned this week and that’s awesome that you already have airfare for next year’s trip :D

    • I really hope you can come–it’s going to be fabulous!

I might post pics of the house and garden when I’ve got things better sorted. It’s still a bit chaotic, but it’s getting better. My sewing corner in the bedroom is looking much better now, which really inspires me to make things.

      Thanks!

  2. Guh! Is if. I wish I could go but having been “across the pond” once already this year I can’t afford it. And the jet-lag! OMG! If I needed a reminder that I’m beginning to get old, that was it.

No, Manchester next year is so much better. Short flight and no jet lag suits me so much better. LOL! I’ll do my best to save up to all the beer I’ll be drinking.

As for gardens; I’ve been meaning to get bulbs, too. I want all the ones you mentioned plus some snow drops. Got to have snow drops, they were my granny’s favorites.

    • I’ve never flown that far so jet lag is something I’ve never experienced. It sounds horrendous, though. So glad to hear you’re coming to Manchester, though!

Snowdrops are beautiful too. I’m waiting to see if there are any already before planting more, as we moved in in April, so missed seeing them.

  3. Busy as usual! Sounds good, all of it, especially the sorting out of stuff – I adore my filing cabinet. It’s grey with blue drawer fronts. Thing is, you have to tidy them out periodically…mine is overdue…
This weekend I’m lopping and chopping with the geology group to free a very important rock face from brambles, small trees and worse. Fingers crossed it doesn’t rain. I’ve found some nice wool so will be starting yet another project :D
Enjoy your week! I’m sure you will :)

    • Oh yes, I need to tidy all the files from my old filing box, but they’ve all just been dumped in there for the time being. It will happen… one day!

Sounds like a fun trip, athough I’m not sure I envy you getting out those brambles. It’s bad enough trying to get rid of the ones in my garden.

Ooh, wool! What are you making? I’m just starting a cardigan. Hope I can get it finished before spring :)

      • Cardigan I think. I’ve got one I started 2 years ago and another short sleeved jumper – making up the pattern for that one!
Wool’s lovely isn’t it? I could just have shelves of it around the place :D

        • I adore yarn. Was just sorting through my stash the other day, admiring it all (and trying to figure out what to use it all for)
