Update Monday: goodbye, Leylandii!

Working week:

Where did my week go? I got a bit of Storm and Lightning written, but the time just seemed to evaporate. Ah well. I think I’ve probably needed a more restful spell to get on with other things after all the UK Meet/Hot Floor release stuff I was busy with over September.

Real life:

I’ve continued sorting the house out, and now have a lovely sewing area all tidied and organised. I know now that unless I make my craft things really accessible to use when the urge hits me, I just don’t ever get on with doing stuff. I’m now working through the basket of almost-finished projects and reducing that before I launch into serious dressmaking mode. It’s the only option, as I just can’t find any clothes I like in the shops these days!

I mentioned next door’s leylandii trees last week, which had grown to colossal proportions and were blocking all the afternoon sunlight from the back of the house. They’re coming down right now! Already, my garden looks so much lighter and bigger. I think the fact I asked them to remove the yew tree from the end of my garden too makes a real difference. Now I’m excited to get on with planning that end flowerbed :)

This week:

I’ll be writing more Storm and Lightning (target 12k, which should bring me very near the finish). I’ve also got a few UK Meet things to be getting on with, and most importantly of all, Daisy’s 7th Birthday Party to plan for Saturday. I’ve already sorted the party bags and her presents. Just food, cake and decorations to do now. Oh, and thinking of games to entertain a group of eight girls :-/

I’ll be blogging over at Cole’s tomorrow, talking about gauge swatches (or tension squares to the Brits). Hope to see some of you there :D

What are the rest of you up to this week?

  1. Hurrah for the demise of the leylandii! That’s going to make a huge difference :D
I’m very impressed that you’re going through your unfinished projects! I need to do that as there were 8 at the last count.
I’m trying to be dynamic and organised but there’s a gripping play on the radio and I’ve made a cuppa. I need to get to grips with the reading for the Ancient Egyptian art course I’m doing too.
    Have a good week!

    • The garden is so much lighter! I got them to take out the yew tree at the end too, which had outgrown the space.

Err, I have many more than 8 unfinished projects. So many more, it’s not funny. I’m determined to get them out of the way. I still have a coat I need to sew together as well–that could take some time.

Have a wonderful week–that art course sounds fantastic!

    • Leylandii? Are you sure you’re talking about the same thing? It just looked like a big wall of fir tree to me. Maybe one on their own if allowed to grow to its proper shape would be attractive, but I really hate them as hedges. Plus they never stop growing.

  2. YAY for having a sewing place sorted :D And I’ll bet having the trees out of the way will open things up quite a bit.

Good luck with the dress making the dress you made for the UK Meet Up was GORGEOUS.

Good luck with the stuff you’re doing this week and GAH planning the birthday party. Happy Early Birthday to Daisy <3333

    • Thanks, hon! The garden has loads more light now. I’m thinking of getting a dwarf apple and dwarf cherry tree to go down at the end now, as we’ve lost all our summer shade.

The birthday party planning seems to be taking up all available time this week. Wish I could find time to do some sewing. Ah well. Maybe once I’ve got Storm and Lightning all finished…

Right, I have a birthday cake to make now :)
