’Tis the season of goodwill to all men…even the one who dumped you.
Riley MacDermott is going places. Managing the annual Bath Christmas Market—which involves long hours in the cold and a whole lot of hassle—will secure the promotion he needs to afford to move out of his noisy, top-floor flat. Where not even his balcony is safe from an aggressive seagull.
The last stallholder he expects to see is his ex. Riley never recovered from their break up, and five years on the old chemistry still sparkles. Shame they can’t seem to manage a simple chat without arguing.
Stan never wanted to leave the love of his life, but the pull of the woods was too strong—and Riley wouldn’t hear of leaving the city. Reconnecting is painful, but Stan still jumps at the chance to stay with his old flame during the Market. And damn the consequences.
As the weeks pass, the two grow closer than ever. But despite scorching sex and cosy intimacy, they both know they face a cold and lonely future. Unless they can figure out a compromise.
Warning: Contains sex in a shed, a seagull with a grudge, glamping, awful Secret Santa underwear, misuse of an ABBA song, and as many wood-related puns as the author thought she could get away with.
What they’re saying:
I’m not really in the mood this year for Christmas and that nearly put me off reading this but I’m so glad I didn’t put it to one side; it cheered me up no end. It’s humorous and sexy and funny and I haven’t even mentioned Scrappy the seagull yet! … I adored this book, it’s one I will read again and again, not just at Christmas, and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a warm heart and a large smile with their Christmas Cheer.
5 Sweet Peas from Josie Goodreads at Mrs Condit and Friends Read Books
A joyful, lighthearted, wonderfully witty read… Jo creates two wonderful, real, true-to-life and down to earth characters, the mood is kept light-hearted and comical on the surface, but never trivial. The very subtle humour that runs through this book is fantastic and very British in its essence… I enjoyed this read so much. This needs to go on everyone’s Christmas reading list or in their stocking.
5 stars from Mark at Sinfully Sexy Book Reviews
I absolutely adore Christmas stories and their sugarplum sweetness, so leave it to Josephine Myles to write a holiday treat that takes place around Christmastime but has little to do with the miracles and the fa-la-la-la-la, and everything to do with romantic complications, with much hilarity and bird poop thrown in just for fun. Yes, there’s a point to the poop. It’s pointedly practical poop, relevant to the plot and character development, even, so there. Read and you’ll understand.
5 stars from Lisa at The Novel Approach
Josephine Myles did an amazing job of drawing me into the story by immediately introducing me to Riley and his quirky personality. I loved his sarcastic humor and his ramblings. He was a treat to get to know and the further I read, the more he endeared himself to me… Merry Gentlemen sure grabbed a spot on ‘my favorites’ shelf.
If you’re in the mood for a light yet sexy romantic story that will have you laughing out loud with characters that will tug at your heart strings, a setting that will put you in the mood for Christmas and chemistry abound, Merry Gentlemen is the book for you.
5 stars from Shirley Frances at LeAnn’s Book Reviews
I’m a big fan of Josephine Myles. I’m a big fan of Christmas. It would stand to reason that I should like this book. I did not like this book. I LOVED this book.
My absolute favorite thing about Jo Myles’s books are her characters and these two MC’s are no exception. Honestly, Riley is hilarious.
5 stars from Ann at Boy Meets Boy Reviews
Merry Gentlemen is a humorous, sexy story with a slightly serious thread running just under the surface… I loved the chemistry between Stan and Riley. They were two people who had been together long enough to really know one another and to be able to fall into a comfortable banter (until the issue of compromise came up). They were passionate and there was a joy to their love-making that made me want to say work it out already! … This novella length story packs quite a bit into a short story with Ms Myles’ usual quirky, sexy characters in a holiday setting. Great for a quick Christmas read with your favorite cup of holiday cheer.
4.5 stars from Deb at Live Your Life, Buy the Book
Myles’ lighthearted and often hilarious writing style sets the overall tone for this Christmas story. Filled to the brim with laughter and love, MERRY GENTLEMEN will lift your spirits, readying you for upcoming holidays while also giving you a dose of steam to warm you for those wintery nights!

If you enjoy a substantial but basically fun and sweet Christmas story that is also thoroughly British, you really ought to pick up Merry Gentlemen this year. It most definitely hit all the right buttons for me.
